The Gallatin River Canyon is one of the most scenic corridors in all of Montana. Certainly Hollywood thought so, which is why it chose this canyon for its filming location of the popular Robert Redford movie 'A River Runs Through It'. With numerous highway pullouts for viewing the scenery, and fishing the river, this accessibility makes it a favorite among first-time and return visitors. more info

WORLD CLASS FISHING

Rainbows, browns and the occasional cutthroat trout all make up the population in the Gallatin River Canyon. The upper Gallatin River Canyon is one of Montana's most scenic valleys. The stunningly beautiful physical surroundings, water quality and the fishing values of this river draw anglers from all over the country, indeed the world, each year.
Classified as a "Blue Ribbon" stream of national significance, the Gallatin was listed in Trout Unlimited's Guide to America's 100 Best Trout Streams as holding "something for anglers of all skill levels, from the greenest novice who's yet to wet a wader, to the grizzled pro who's been there and done that and plans to keep doing it forever."

The Gallatin - something for fishing enthusiasts of all skill levels.

RAFTING AND KAYAKING

The Gallatin is not only rewarding for fishing, but for kayaking, and whitewater and scenic rafting as well.
Soon after leaving Yellowstone National Park, the Gallatin wedges itself into the constricted and magnificent River Canyon. Formed by steep rises of the Gallatin Range looking down from the east and the Madison Range across the way, this stretch, up to the canyon's abrupt demise southwest of Bozeman, is a kayaking, rafting, and photographic paradise. Which is why the Gallatin Whitewater Festival began in 1977 and has remained a successful annual event. Kayakers and canoe enthusiasts of all abilities come to compete in a series of recreational and competitive river events. The festival also draws a number of spectators who come to watch the slalom, rodeo and downriver whitewater events.

Whitewater rafting - big fun on the Gallatin!

Hiking trails and campgrounds offer ample opportunities for a memorable outdoor experience. Wildlife abounds and sightings of bighorn sheep, black bears, elk, and mule deer are common. Several mountain peaks exceed 11,000 feet in the region. Below the peaks are wide sub-alpine meadows, forested valleys and more than 175 lakes.
