Location/Directions

From Bozeman, travel 41 miles down the Gallatin Canyon on U.S. 191 – or, from West Yellowstone, drive 48 miles north on U.S. 191 – to the blinking yellow light that marks the turn up Lone Mountain Trail, which heads west up to the resort. The area is well-marked for easy navigation.
Seasons
Big Sky Resort was developed as a winter ski destination in the early 1970s, and these days lays claim to the honor of offering The Biggest Skiing in America. In recent years, however, it also has grown into a vibrant summer resort, with tons of activities for young and old, not to mention easy access to the mountains and rivers of Montana, and the wildlife and other wonders of Yellowstone National Park.
Winter Activities
Best known for its world-class skiing and famously short lift-lines, Big Sky Ski & Summer Resort boasts 3,500 acres of downhill skiing (or more than 5,500 acres when you include its sister resort, Moonlight Basin), an awesome 4,350-foot vertical drop off the summit of Lone Peak, some of the most challenging steep skiing in the Lower 48, and of course plenty of heaven-sent Rocky Mountain powder.
In addition, snowboarders have five terrain parks to play in, there's plenty of beginner and intermediate skiing, and when you're ready for a break from the high-country, there's a snowshoe course, a tubing park, a "Family Fun Zone," and a three-leg zipline that allows you to "fly" through the forest and over gullies like a raven.
Summer Activities
In the spring, summer and fall, Big Sky visitors can scoot up to Mountain Village, at the base of Lone Peak, to enjoy nearly a dozen on-site activities, such as the zipline, a high ropes course, mountain biking, paintball, and a Arnold Palmer 18-hole, par 72 golf course.
Or they can venture farther afield to hike or backpack in the magnificent Madison Mountains, challenge the trout in the legendary angling waters nearby, or ride the local rivers on a thrilling whitewater raft tour. Gallatin Canyon is a regional rock-climbing destination, a horseback ride is just a phone call away, and the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park is just an hour away, making Big Sky Resort the perfect base camp for a Western adventure.
And of course, everywhere you go, be sure to keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife – elk, bison, moose, bears, wolves – that still claims these mountains for their home.
Restaurants & Shopping
In between outings, visitors have 40 restaurants from which to choose – from super-casual to fine dining – as well as dozens of shops offering outdoor gear, chic apparel, Native American jewelry and more. There's also a fitness center, swimming pools, and the Solace Spa, as well as dozens of special events – arts fairs, musical performances, classes and workshops for kids and adults, contests and competitions – scheduled throughout the summer.
