Big Sky, Montana is a rare location where you can be surrounded by fascinating beauty and more activities than you can possible enjoy all in one vacation!  In the summer you can fish, bike, hike, raft, horseback ride, golf, camp, view wildlife or simply sit back and enjoy the magnificent scenery.  In the winter, you can enjoy great downhill skiing, Nordic skiing, dog sledding, adventures in nearby Yellowstone and sleigh rides.

First pick the season, then pick the activities, then make your packing list for what to bring.  The mountains and the weather of Montana can both be pretty wild.  The weather can change suddenly. It's always a good idea to dress in layers no matter what time of year you visit. Although during most summers it doesn't rain very often or for very long, bring rain gear and an extra pair of shoes. Sweaters and windbreakers are also a good idea-it can be in the 70's or 80's at the lower elevations, but ten or twenty degrees cooler higher up. Sunscreen is a good idea, especially at this altitude.

In the winter, mornings can be quite cold, with afternoons that can be extremely mild-sun and 32 degrees here is surprisingly warm, especially if you're skiing or doing something active. Bring outdoor clothing including a good, warm coat, snow pants, boots, a warm hat and waterproof gloves or mittens. Bring an extra pair of shoes so that you have a dry pair to put on after playing in the snow. And don't forget to throw in a bathing suit for the hot tub for any season.
