Like many other resorts in the Rocky Mountain west, Big Sky has seen a surge in recent years of vacation home building, and with it, excellent opportunities to rent a premier luxury property at one of America's leading mountain destinations.
Though roughly 85% of all rental homes available in Big Sky are under management by booking agencies and central reservation companies, renting directly from these independent owners can save you money, and give you more enjoyment for the investment. In 2006, Big Sky and Moonlight Basin Resorts joined forces to offer a multi-resort pass (the Lone Peak Pass) providing access to both mountains' terrain for one fee. This has helped to create the "Biggest Skiing in America®" with more acres and runs than any other resort in the U.S. With this distinction, there are also many choices of rental homes that can take advantage of ski-in/out access to both mountains.
But don't feel discouraged if you can't get a property right on a ski run. Some of the better deals for rental homes are those just off a lift line. If you are willing to walk your skis a few hundred yards, Big Sky and Moonlight have many opportunities for providing quick access to one of their lifts capable of getting you to the terrain you desire in the blink of an eye.
