Kids Winter Fun

Kids glide through the snow on skis or in a horse-drawn sleigh, then fly through the air on a zipline. Winter fun for families is non-stop adventure in Big Sky.

  • Fly through the air at up to 25mph on the Big Sky Resort Zipline
  • Meet other kids on the Mountain at ski or snowboard camp
  • Take a family horse-drawn sleigh ride
  • See grizzlies and wolves up-close in West Yellowstone

Overview

Winter fun in Big Sky is often tailored for the extreme, but there are plenty of kid friendly and family oriented winter activities to enjoy too. Enroll kids in ski school while you take more challenging runs or take the family snow tubing when the ski hill closes. Together or apart, everyone gets his age appropriate dose of adventure.

Kid Friendly Activities

Skiing
Kids may not be able to tackle the Big Couloir on top of Lone Peak quite yet, so enroll them in ski or snowboard camp at Big Sky Resort for a half or full day. They’ll get great, skill-appropriate instruction and meet other kids on the mountain. Wednesday afternoons kids do a mountain treasure-hunt on skis and on Thursdays parents can cheer on as kids race down the course of Chet’s Knob (Kids age 4-14). At Moonlight Basin kids 3-4 can do a private lesson in conjunction with daycare and older kids do a half-day group lesson with daycare.

Big Sky Bungee Trampoline
Kids love bouncing, jumping, and flipping on this fun bungee trampoline located in the plaza at Big Sky Resort.

Snow Tubing
Kids love speeding down the 500-foot tube park on their sled-like inner tube.

Kids Club
From 3:30-5:50 grab an après ski drink while kids participate in the Kids Club. From mask-making to outdoor field games, Kids 4 and up love hanging out at the “kids only” clubhouse at Big Sky resort (free for resort guests).

Fun Attractions for the Family

Sleigh Rides
Snuggle up with your little ones as they experience the magic of a sleigh ride through the snow-covered Narnia-esque forest of Big Sky. Depending on the outfitter you choose, your horse-drawn sleigh will take you to a gourmet dinner and live music or board games and marshmallow roasting in a toasty mountain yurt. Check out the providers below to book your ideal sleigh adventure.

Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone
Born in captivity or labeled “nuisance bears,” the grizzlies and wolves at the Discovery Center are unable to live in the wild. Instead, they roam the animal sanctuary year-round (these grizzlies don’t hibernate!), giving you a chance to get a rare up-close look at these great beasts. Kids love participating in one of the Centers educational programs led by staff naturalists or helping hide food for the bears in the Keeper Kids program ($5.50 for children 5 - 12, free for children under 5).

Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman
Check out the largest Tyrannosaurus rex skull ever unearthed or catch a show at the Digistar planetarium. Kids also love the Living History Farm, where re-enactors dress in frontier period costumes ($10 for adults, $9 for senior, $7 for children 5-18, free for children 4 and under).

Zipline
Kids over three feet tall love swinging like Tarzan through the trees and over the slopes on Big Sky Resort’s Zipline. You’ll zip on three different lines over two hours, speeding 25 mph 60 feet above the ground.
